01 Mar Glass guard with complex geometry: Eleftheria Square, Design and Construction
A glass balustrade can be more than just a functional proposition, it can be a landmark or cultural meeting point, creating an urban square for the city of Nicosia, connecting both sides in Europe’s last divided capital.
The western balustrade at Eleftherias Square, Nicosia-Cyprus, presented a challenge to the pentagonal team in terms of 3D modeling, special fabric for glass accessories, testing and construction of glass products, in order to achieve the objective of this long-awaited project.
This glass balustrade of complex geometry was developed by Pentagonal with an inclination of 42º along its length with non-regular curved geometry.
Structural glass elements and software modeling were specifically developed, simulated and tested to ensure this prominent and futuristic design from Zaha Hadid Architecture, which guarantees not only the structural performance, but also the aesthetic of the glass structure.
